MONTREAL _ Consumers, especially bargain-hunting women, will be expecting and getting deals on electronics in the slumping economy that has seen major tech companies delete thousands jobs amid falling sales, analysts said Thursday.

As prices on consumer electronics such as televisions, computers and home theatre systems are being discounted, the tech companies that make them or their components have announced job cuts to improve their balance sheets.

“This is the year of the deal,” said Kevin Restivo, senior research analyst with IDC Canada, which tracks global technology trends.
